20 prom photo poses for couples and friend groups

The classic awkward prom photo is two people standing side by side with arms stiff at their sides. Instead, angle towards each other, keep hands in contact (on a waist, holding hands, on an arm) and stand at slightly different distances from the camera. For groups, use stairs or a slope so every face shows.

Couples

1. Angled in. Both turned towards each other at 45 degrees, faces to the camera.

2. Hug from behind. His arms around her waist, or hers around his.

3. Her hand on his chest, corsage showing.

4. Forehead to forehead.

5. The dip.

6. Walking hand in hand, looking at each other.

7. Back to back, arms crossed, playful.

8. The diagonal. One a step closer to the camera. The Two-Point Vertex guide puts two people on a diagonal.

Best friends

9. Arm in arm, laughing.

10. Back to back.

11. Sitting on steps, dresses spread.

12. The mirror selfie together.

Groups

13. The staircase. One couple per step.

14. The V shape. Tallest in the middle at the back, others lower towards the sides.

15. Alternating dresses and suits in a line.

16. Sitting and standing. Front row sitting on the grass, back row standing.

17. The jump. Burst mode (swipe the shutter left and hold).

18. Walking towards the camera.

19. Everyone looking at one couple as they kiss or dip.

20. The serious one, then the silly one.

Tips

  • Hands in contact. On a waist, an arm, holding hands.
  • Weight on the back leg, front knee soft.
  • Space between arms and body.
  • Groups at 1x, stepping back. The ultra-wide stretches people at the edges.
  • Several frames. Someone always blinks.
