Side Chick

Off-center environmental portrait

Portrait

The subject sits to one side of the frame while the scene — a café table, a doorway, a street — fills the rest. It tells a story about where the person is, not just who they are.

How to shoot it

  1. 1Camera heightHold the camera at the subject's chest height.
  2. 23–4x zoomShoot with 3–4x zoom.
  3. 38m+ distanceStand at least 8 metres away from the subject.
  4. 4Head on top 1/3 linePlace the subject in the side box with the head near the top third line.

Using it in slay

Open slay, pick Side Chick from the guide picker and the overlay appears on your live viewfinder. Line your subject up with the guide using the gold crosshair, follow the height, angle and zoom above, and shoot — no cropping or editing needed. Finish the look with one of 38 built-in LUTs.
