- The camera shows a black screen
- slay needs camera access. Open Settings › slay and turn on Camera, then reopen the app.
- My photos aren't saving
- Open Settings › slay › Photos and choose Full Access or Add Photos Only. To file shots into their own album, turn on Save to slay album in slay's settings.
- The guide never locks
- Lock needs a clear subject. Move so your subject sits inside the highlighted zone, and get closer if it's small in the frame. Subject coaching must be on in slay's settings.
About slay
- What is slay and how does it work?
- slay is an AI composition guide camera. It layers professional composition guides — like rule of thirds, triangles, and vanishing points — over your live camera view, tracks your subject with on-device AI, and locks with a glow and a haptic when the shot lines up.
- How does slay's AI work?
- slay finds the subject in your frame — a person, or the most prominent object — using Apple's Vision framework on your iPhone, and checks whether it sits in your guide's target zone. A motion-sensor level checks the horizon. Nothing is uploaded: your camera feed and photos stay on your phone.
- What is the best composition camera app for iPhone?
- slay is built for exactly that. It overlays 14 composition guides on your live iPhone viewfinder — rule of thirds, triangle, symmetry, vanishing point and more — so you frame each shot correctly instead of cropping later. It's free to download, with an optional Slay Pro upgrade that unlocks every LUT, guide and lesson.
- How many composition guides are there?
- There are 14 guides, from classic rule of thirds and portrait frames to triangle, two-point vertex, and aerial-view compositions. Each one teaches the eye as you shoot.
- Does it work on my phone?
- slay runs on iPhone. It uses your device's real camera with native multi-lens zoom — switch between 0.5x, 1x, 2x and 3x like the stock camera, with the guides tracking along.
- How much does slay cost?
- slay is free to download on the App Store. Slay Pro unlocks all 38 LUTs, every composition guide and every Field Guide lesson — $1.99/week, $2.99/month (with a 3-day free trial), or $39.99 one-time for Lifetime. Cancel anytime.
- Will the guides make me a better photographer?
- Yes — that's the whole point. Field Guide lessons teach one idea at a time and open the camera with the right guide loaded, and every shot gets a report. By aligning subjects to proven compositions every time, you train your eye to recognise strong framing on your own.
