Two-Third

Rule of thirds — subject fills two-thirds

Travel & scenery

The counterpart to One-Third: the main subject — a tower, a tree, a building — fills two-thirds of the frame, with a strip of sky or ground for balance.

How to shoot it

  1. 1Any directionWorks in any light direction; looks especially natural with side light.
  2. 2Eye levelSet the camera at eye level and shoot.
  3. 31.5x zoomStay at least 3 metres from the scene and use 1.5x zoom.
  4. 42/3 placementPlace the main scene in the 2/3 area, separate it from its surroundings and line it up with the rule-of-thirds grid.

Tip: Use horizontal lines or pillar-like elements to separate the areas.

Using it in slay

Open slay, pick Two-Third from the guide picker and the overlay appears on your live viewfinder. Line your subject up with the guide using the gold crosshair, follow the height, angle and zoom above, and shoot — no cropping or editing needed. Finish the look with one of 38 built-in LUTs.
