30 beach photo ideas for iPhone (solo, couples, friends and family)

Beaches are bright, flat and full of reflections, which makes them easy to shoot badly. Three rules fix most beach photos: go in the first or last hour of sun, keep the horizon perfectly level, and put it on the top or bottom third, never across the middle. Here are 30 ideas.

Solo

1. Walking along the water's edge. Shot from the side, waves at the feet.

2. Sitting in the sand, knees up, looking at the sea.

3. Back to the camera, looking at the sunset.

4. Hat held on in the wind.

5. Hair blowing. Face into the wind.

6. Lying on a towel, shot from directly above.

7. Splashing water towards the camera. Burst mode.

8. Small figure, big sea. You in the bottom third, the sea and sky above. The Travel Shot guide frames it.

9. Silhouette at sunset.

10. Reading under an umbrella.

Couples

11. Walking hand in hand, footprints behind.

12. Piggyback into the waves.

Beach photo tips

  • Golden hour. First and last hour of sun. Midday sun gives squinting and hard shadows.
  • Level the horizon. A tilted sea is the most common beach mistake. slay shows a live horizon level.
  • Horizon on a third. Use the One-Third guide to give the sky or the sand two-thirds.
  • Lower exposure slightly so the sky and sea keep their colour.
  • Protect the phone from sand and salt water.

Frame the horizon

slay overlays composition guides and a live horizon level on your iPhone camera, so the sea is straight and the sky gets its space.
